Wesley Hills Luncheon Held in Support of Mike Lawler for Congress Earns National Attention

A Wesley Hills luncheon held in support of Mike Lawler's bid for congress on Thursday, October 27 earned national attention and financial support for the 17th Congressional District.

The lunch reception demonstrated that the Republican National party is fully invested in Lawler and featured special guest Republican Whip Steve Scalise, Congressman [Rep.-R-LA-1]. Scalise came from Lousianna expressly to demonstrate his support of Mike Lawler. Scalise is presently number two in the minority of Republican leadership, but should the Republicans take back the congress, as expected, he will be number two for the majority in Congress.

Educational concerns are not exclusive to the frum community. Parental involvement in education has become a very hot-button topic as parents across the nation are increasingly unhappy with what schools are forcing on children under the guise of education. There is also tremendous concern about the control the school boards are attempting to arrest from them as parents express dismay at what is being allowed to pass for education in public schools.

Local community leaders were able to hear firsthand from leaders of congress on topics such as this, as Scalise made clear that the passage of a federal parental bill of rights to protect parents' rights to choose how their children should be educated is one of the Republican's top priorities.

Elected officials from other States were, in turn, highly interested in hearing how the issue of parental choice affects the Orthodox Jewish community in Rockland County, which has the highest per capita Jewish population in the nation.

"Here in the state of New York, we have a government that is attacking yeshiva education," Lawler shared with attendees. "They are attacking the right of parents to choose what is best for their children to ensure children are getting a religious education. It is wrong, and it must stop!"

Protecting religious freedom on the federal level was another focus issue.

The meeting was attended by New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer, Kaser Mayor Allie Pinkasovits, Village of Chestnut Ridge Trustee Chaim Rose, Village of Airmont Deputy Mayor Shimon Moses, and Pomona Trustee Mendy Lasker.
