RCE Ed Day Responds to Hi Tor Animal Shelter Project Delay

Rockland County legislature is leading the effort to replace the outdated Hi Tor Animal Shelter with a sprawling 14,000 Sq foot facility.
During the years of planning, the building costs have skyrocketed, leading the county to increase its commitment to $18 million.
However, this measure was not voted upon in the Tuesday evening session, and County Executive Ed Day expressed his disappointment in this delay.
“My administration, the County Legislature, and Town Supervisors made a joint promise long ago to provide homeless animals in Rockland with a desperately needed upgrade; rising costs do not change this fact. Time is a critical factor for the current aging facility. We have held up our end of the pledge now we need the other stakeholders to do the same on behalf of all the animals currently housed there,” said a statement from Mr. Day.
