RC First Responders Wish Dr. Dennis Mao Well, After his Last Shift at Good Samaritan Hospital

By Sarah Morgenstern

Rockland County first responders bid a warm farewell to Dennis Mao, MD, 54, who is retiring after completing his last shift in which he served as the assistant medical director in the Emergency Room at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.

Dr. Mao plans to continue serving as the medical director of Spring Hill EMS.

In the past 20 years, Dr. Mao has served as the medical director multiple of local several Emergency Medical Service agencies and the Ridgewood Volunteer Ambulance Corps (RVAC).

“While Dr. Mao will remain Spring Hill's medical director, our crews will miss the wisdom, guidance, and assistance he shared when coming into the ER,” Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps wrote on its Facebook page. “Dr. Mao has always gone ‘above and beyond’ as our medical director.

“He truly cares for the well-being of each member of the EMS family as well as the community-at-large.”

Throughout the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic, local first-responders gratefully remembered how Dr. Mao made himself available 24/7 to them for his much-need medical guidance.

“By ensuring the safety and the well-being of our first responder family,” they wrote, “Dr. Mao’s assistance ensured the ongoing quality care for the residents served by Spring Hill and beyond.”

“Tonight, our members stood alongside Suffern Police Department, Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps, and William Paul Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corps to wish Dr. Mao well as he completes his last shift at Good Samaritan Hospital.

“Dr. Mao has been a staple to the EMS family for nearly 20 years, and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors.”
