Congressman Lawler Firmly Condemns Columbia University's Wave of Unchecked Antisemitism

by M.C. Millman

Congressman Mike Lawler visited Columbia University yesterday to express his clear opposition to the antisemitism running rampant and unchecked on campus.

"Here's the reality: hate is taught," the congressman said. "It is taught in the schools of Gaza, and unfortunately, it is being taught here in the United States. Enough is enough. We have a responsibility to act and ensure our students are safe from the Hamas apologists in our own country."

The congressman joined Speaker Johnson, House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chair Virginia Foxx (NC-05), Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) and Congressman Anthony D'Esposito (NY-04) for a press conference and meetings with faculty and staff at Columbia University to discuss the disgraceful displays of antisemitism emanating out of Columbia's campus.

"These students who are intimidating their Jewish peers should be arrested, and they should be expelled - and if they aren't American citizens, they should be deported," the congressman stated on X earlier today. "We must take a firm stand against hate on our campuses."

"To the Hamas apologists on college campuses across the country," the congressman additionally states on X, "your support for a terrorist group that butchered women, children, and babies is abominable. And to the university presidents who can't bring themselves to stand up to these antisemitic radicals - resign and let someone who will crack down on them take charge."

"Since far too many campus leaders have proven either woefully incapable or disgracefully unwilling to ensure the safety of their Jewish students," the congressman stated on Monday, April 22, "it's imperative for Congress to act. That's why I introduced the Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act to rescind federal funding from college campuses that peddle this antisemitic hatred along with the Antisemitism Awareness Act to better ensure those who commit antisemitic hate crimes against their peers are held accountable by requiring the federal Department of Education to adopt the IHRA working definition of antisemitism and its contemporary examples when enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws.

"I have never seen a more disgraceful act than what we are seeing on college campuses right now. I'm Irish Italian Catholic. I love this country. We are a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of many religions, many races, many ethnicities. Our country is the most free country in the world. And yet what we are seeing on these campuses is an absolute abomination.
