Orange and Rockland Begins Under Ground Project to Benefit 3,100 Customers in Ramsey/Mahwah

Orange and Rockland (O&R) is working on a $3.1M electric system storm hardening project designed to improve service reliability and strengthen electric system infrastructure for approximately 3,100 of its customers in Ramsey and Mahwah.

The project will replace approximately 5,500 feet of overhead wire in Ramsey with an underground distribution cable system that will be installed along the path of the current overhead system.

Trenching and other preparations for the installation of the underground cable is progressing and should be completed in the spring. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The program calls for further undergrounding targeted sections of the overhead electric system and upgrading other key parts of the overhead electric system to help mitigate system outages due to extreme weather-related events. The program began on January 1, 2021, and is slated to continue through December 31, 2027.
