Last Chance to Apply for Emergency Rental Assistance

Rockland Daily Staff

Time is ticking for eligible New Yorkers to apply for temporary protection from eviction.

ERAP provides significant economic relief to low and moderate-income Rockland County households that experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were at risk of homelessness. The program provides rental arrears, temporary rental assistance, and utility arrears.

New York State's new Emergency Rental Assistance (ERAP) application deadline is tomorrow, January 20th, at 9 p.m. After that time, applications will no longer be accepted.

Rockland County Government reports that ERAP has helped over 1,700 Rockland households and has paid out over $28 million directly to landlords and utilities on behalf of eligible households to help prevent homelessness.

"Without question, this program has been a helpful lifeline for many of our families, and we encourage anyone who is behind on their rent or utilities to submit their application by the deadline," said County Executive Ed Day.

For more information about the program and to apply, please visit https://otda.ny.gov/ERAP. Applications can only be submitted online.
