Kangaroo Escapes Animal Retreat, Hops Around Orange County

Kangaroo Escapes Animal Retreat, Hops Around Orange County

By Sarah Morgenstern

A kangaroo is on the loose after making his escape from Noah’s Art Animal Retreat in Goshen, just days ago.

Noah’s Ark Retreat provides “an interactive facility for schools and other educational groups to enhance awareness of nature and the importance of protecting animals and their environment,” according to its website, but the center wants to bring home its beloved marsupial.

The kangaroo, which is named Rocko, has been reported missing for days and was last seen hopping around the area of Gate School House Road in Orange County, according to the Ramapo Daily Voice.

Rocko, a gentle kangaroo, will not attack or hurt anyone, but he can be nervous and wary of people who try to get close enough to pet or grab him, activists warned.

“The kangaroo is very skittish,” one resident posted on the Lost Pets of the Hudson Valley Facebook group. “Please approach [him] slowly.”

The Facebook poster also asked any residents who spot Rocco to consider feeding him and providing him with water, “as it has been a few days.”

Rocko likes to eat sweet potatoes and bananas, the Facebook poster said,

Noah’s Ark advises anyone who happens to make contact with Rocko to take care not to spook him, but to slowly guide him into a garage or barn, before contacting Noah’s Ark at (845) 421-5365 or (845) 522-7312 to bring him home.
