Gas Prices Will Spike as NY's Gas Tax Suspension Expires January 1

Rockland Daily Staff

This New Year will bring back New York's gas tax, suspended for the past six months to combat the rising gas prices.

In June of this year, NYS implemented this tax break to save drivers a minimum of $0.16 per gallon around the state. There are also counties within New York that have paused taxes on gas. RocklandGov reports that Rockland's gas tax relief will extend until February 28, 2023, two months longer than New York State's tax suspensions.

State legislators have tried to keep the state gas tax suspension running longer, including a handful from the Hudson Valley. Diane Caruso from News 12 says that reports from earlier this month indicate Governor Kathy Hochul does not plan on extending the tax break.
