Emergency Access Gate in the Works for I-84 After Tragic Bus Accident
by Mindy Cohn
The Federal Highway Administration approved a long-awaited, life-saving, emergency access crash gate along I-84 after the Farmingdale School District coach bus tragedy.
The September accident killed two and left forty injured in the aftermath.
When every second counts, the lack of an emergency access entrance for first responders to bypass traffic is known to slow down response times considerably.
"The Slate Hill Fire Department had requested this emergency access almost 30 years ago, and nothing was ever done; it was always delayed somewhere, " Assemblyman Karl Brabenec said, according to News12.
But at long last, construction is expected to begin in the spring. Until then, the crash gate is in the preliminary design stage.
