Rockland Storm Update

Rockland Daily Staff

Orange & Rockland (O&R) crews worked through the night to restore power to 3,460 customers whose electric service was knocked out by heavy winds causing downed branches and wires from the major winter storm system that continues to batter the region with heavy rains and wind gusts of 45-55 mph.

Additional repairs are in progress to restore service to the remaining 486 affected customers.

O&R company, contractor, mutual aid overhead line crews, and tree removal experts are on standby to be deployed as needed for the storm's duration. Customer service operations and other emergency response teams remain activated and ready to respond.

Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht also shared a weather update, letting residents know that some roadways in the Town of Ramapo have experienced localized flooding due to overnight rainfall. Flooded roads include Bobby Lane and Route 303/59 adjacent to the Palisades Mall. However, there is ponding in other areas prone to flooding. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution, as standing water on roadways can impact the safe passage of motor vehicles.

Due to the weather event, the Town has activated its Non-Emergency Hotline (845) 250-8142. For emergencies, please call the local police department or 911 for immediate assistance.

This afternoon, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing; therefore, icy, hazardous conditions may exist on the roadways at that time. Ramapo Highway has sandbags available at the Highway Department for those in need.

The Highway Department will be out and about salting the roads as necessary today. Crews are also ready overnight and through the weekend as needed.
