Rockland County Makes Several Positive New Hires

By Sarah Morgenstern

A slew of positive staffing changes to county government will take place on Monday, Feb. 28, after Guillermo Rosa, Rockland County’s deputy county executive retired on Friday.

Mike Hoblin, who currently serves as the county’s chief of staff, will take over Rosa’s position on Monday, announced Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

Stepping into the role of chief of staff is John Lyon, who currently serves as the director of strategic communications.

Lyon, who has worked his way up from the role of cameraman and then editor at New12 Hudson Valley, has been helpful to the community, reports a Rockland Country resident in media.

“John Lyon has done an incredible job keeping the public informed during crisis situations and has improved the overall reach and quality of the county’s regular communications efforts,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Since joining my administration in 2018, John has worked closely with department heads and commissioners to organize and publicize the work of our many dedicated employees.

“Lyon is a natural fit to serve as chief of staff.”

Another new staffer who previously worked at News 12 Hudson Valley is reporter Beth Cefalu, who has been named the county’s new director of strategic communications.

Cefalu is thought by locals to have reported fairly.

“All in all: good changes,” said a Rockland County resident who works in media.
