Record-Breaking Turnout of Voters in Wesley Hills

Record-Breaking Turnout of Voters in Wesley Hills

By Chana Weinman

A record-breaking number of voters turned out in Tuesday's vote in the Village of Wesley Hills after a very heavily contested election.

For the past twenty years, a regular Wesely Hills election brought out an average of 400 voters, while this Tuesday, March 19's election saw 1,400 voters within the village.

Incumbent Mayor Marshall Katz ran unopposed while two new trustees from the village's new Unity Party, Joseph Mause and Tova Krull, were voted into office.

The Unity Party expressed its gratitude for the support it received after the successful election.

"We appreciate all voters, even those who did not support us, because we believe all voices matter. We promise to listen and consider all perspectives. We chose to call ourselves the Unity Party because it reflects our aspiration for unity, friendship, and cooperation among ALL residents of Wesley Hills," the party shared with residents.

The Unity Party then went on to pledge to preserve the village’s current zoning and its quality of life and listed its top priorities.

"Security for houses of worship, responsible planning, Village Hall efficiency, and increased pedestrian safety on main roads are our top priorities," the party states. "We will work with the mayor to achieve these goals and to prioritize the well-being of all residents."
