Ramapo Police Department Releases Details on Car Thefts in New Square

The Ramapo Police Department released further details regarding the incidents that took place on February 26 in New Square when a number of cars were broken into as well as an unsuccessful attempt at breaking into a a residence.

After the suspect and vehicle used in the crimes were located by the Rockland County Sheriff Office Patrol Division, Jorge Perez, age 33, from Allentown, Pennsylvania,was placed under arrest and arraigned in the Village of Wesley Hills Court and turned over to the custody of the Rockland County Jail on $25,000 bail.

The second suspect, Fraimy Miguel Morel-Rojas, age 26, from Suffern, was located by Ramapo Police detectives and placed under arrest on February 29. He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court and turned over to the custody of the Rockland County Jail, also on $25,000 bail.

Both men were charged with one count of Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, 1 count of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, multiple counts of Petit Larceny, and multiple counts of Conspiracy 5th Degree and Conspiracy 6th Degree.

“I want to commend the Ramapo police officers and detectives for their outstanding work in investigating these crimes and swiftly arresting the suspects," Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht states. "The safety of all our residents throughout the Town remains our top priority. Thank you to our partners in law enforcement and the Village of New Square for working with RPD to successfully conclude this investigation.”

"The Village of New Square would like to thank Supervisor Specht and the Ramapo Police for their dedicated efforts and quick arrest in this case,"  Mayor of New Square Israel Spitzer states. “We are grateful for the collaborative effort that took place between Ramapo patrol officers, Ramapo detectives, the Rockland Sheriff’s Department, New Square Emergency Services, and the Village of New Square Office of Emergency Management as well as our residents who provided video footage. Every inch of our Village is under video surveillance, and we have a zero-tolerance policy on crimes against our residents. We thank G-d for keeping our Village residents safe and for the partnership that we have with local law enforcement.”
