Monsey Eruv to Expand to Suffern and Surrounding Areas

Monsey Eruv to Expand to Suffern and Surrounding Areas

The Jewish community in Monsey has spread rapidly over the last few years with Suffern being one of the newer establishments. Yet it remains outside of the Monsey Eiruv.

Residents of the Suffern community have gathered and requested from the Va’ad Ha’eiruv of Monsey, led by R’ Chaim Meir Steinmetz, an extension to the eruv to include Suffern and some surrounding neighborhoods.

“Mothers are stuck at home all Shabbos with babies, plus it’s very difficult to invite guests since they cannot use their strollers to carry,” the community wrote on a ChesedFund page. “Guests visit and don’t know that the eruv doesn’t cover the entire area, and sadly end up carrying on Shabbos.”

The Good Samaritan Hospital, a commonly used hospital by the Jewish residents of Rockland, also lacks an eruv, unknowingly to many.

“After months of meetings and planning, and town approvals, the Monsey Eruv are ready to begin the work for our community to add a section to the Monsey Eiruv, thus accommodating the community’s rapid growth,” the Suffern community wrote.

The organizers are predicting this project to cost approximately $40,000.

“We are asking for your help to get us to the goal,” they wrote. “Please make a donation today.”
