Hatzoloh of Rockland Observes Labor Day… Just Not as a Vacation

Rockland Daily Staff

Hatzoloh of Rockland volunteers appreciate a day off as much as anyone else, but this year, Labor Day lived up to its name in every sense of the word.

During the early afternoon of the holiday, Hatzoloh dispatchers and volunteers took the overwhelming number of emergency calls all in stride as the Hatzoloh members kept up with the dizzying pace without missing a beat. Within a two-hour time period during the afternoon, Hatzoloh EMT's dealt with

  • Allergic reaction to a child
  • Severe trauma in Pomona
  • Difficulty breathing in Chestnut Ridge
  • Two separate calls at a local senior residence
  • Severe bleeding at the Sloatsburg service station (northbound)
  • Pedestrian struck by an auto in Monsey
  • Trauma situation in Spring Valley
  • And several other 'typical' medical calls needing transports to the hospital.

Each one of these calls necessitated several responding members, many of them requiring ALS (paramedic) back-up.

Each call took a good amount of family time away from every one of the responding volunteers. No leisurely lunch. No swimming time. No guarantee an EMT would be able to stay to see his steak cooked on the barbeque.

Rockland County cannot be more grateful for the mesiras nefesh of its Hatzoloh volunteers who are out in the streets saving 'worlds'.
