Exclusive: Ramapo Contemplating Repurposing Saddle River Pool for Mini Golf

By M. C. Millman

The Saddle River Pool at 448 Saddle River Road in Monsey is in line for some changes as Ramapo's Department of Parks and Recreation considers repurposing the site and turning it into a mini-golf course as an idea heading the list of possibilities.

"We are just in the brainstorming stage right now," Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht shares exclusively with Rockland Daily. "But it is something we are seriously considering along with the possibility of making an indoor golf driving range on the site, the main goal being to create a recreational venue that will be something family-friendly for the entire community to enjoy."

The supervisor elucidated that the change in the Saddle River location is driven by the reality that public pools are no longer popular venues for residents. The Saddle River pool was closed last year after 97% of its visitors were non-residents in 2022, while the nearby Spook Rock public pool in Suffern has been underutilized by residents as well over the past few summers.

The Town is presently in discussions with Troon, a worldwide golf management corporation that presently successfully manages the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern through a license agreement with the Town and will seek public input on any new recreational use for the site once plans are more concrete.

The Town hopes to be able to move ahead with a defined project in time for summer 2025.
