Customers Get to Foot the Bill as Veolia Reqests a Rise in Rates to Fund $473 Million in Water Service Improvements
by Rockland Daily Staff
Veolia plans to spend $473 million to enhance water service while customers get to pay nearly the entire bill.
The water company, which provides water for 300,000 Rockland County residents, filed a plan with the New York State Public Service Commission to replace $300 million worth of infrastructure, including service lines, water mains, and hydrants.
Veolia claims the $473 million plan will be an investment of nearly $4,000 per customer.
While Veolia will contribute $4 million to lessen the impact of the rate adjustments for its customers, Rockland County residents will still see an increase of 19 cents per day or $5.64 a month in their water bill should the proposal receive approval from the PSC.
