by M.C. Millman
After Indian Point nuclear facility's owner divulged at a meeting on February 2 that it still plans to move ahead with dumping one million gallons of radioactive water into the Hudson River, the Rockland County Legislature took a stand and passed a resolution unanimously against allowing this the water to be dumped.
The resolution passed on Wednesday night calls on Governor Kathy Hochul and state environmental and regulatory agencies to stop Holtec International's plan of action. Also included was an amendment to ban the release of radioactive waste into the Hudson River and an additional recommendation for raising the financial penalties for dumping.
The Rockland County Legislature's resolution comes two days after the Westchester Board of Legislators took a similar stand.
