BDE: Rav Shlomo Zalman Kaufman, zt”l

We regret to inform you of the untimely petirah of Rav Shlomo Zalman Kaufman, zt”l, a longtime Rov and dayan in the Monsey area. He was 71 years of age. 

Rav was a renowned ga’on who was sought-after for his expertise in Choshen Mishpat and many other areas. He was a talmid of Rav Meir Bransdorfer and Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, two tremendous, world-renowned ga’onim from Eretz Yisroel. 

The Rov was known as a ga’on who was familiar in all areas of Torah. He spent much time in Rav Chaim Flohr’s Kolel, an outpost of Torah in the Monsey community. 

Rav Shlomo Zalman was dedicated to honesty and straightness in din, and would conduct dinei Torah at no charge. His beis din was called Beis Din Tzedek Hora’ah Umishpat. He was also very active in helping to free agunos. 

In later years, Rav Kaufman was the rov of Shul in Chestnut Ridge. 

Thursday afternoon, he suffered a cardiac arrest and was niftar soon thereafter. 

The levaya will take place Friday morning at 11:00 at 108 Scotland Hill Road in Chestnut Ridge.
