Three DWI Arrests Made on Sunday

The Ramapo Police Department made three DWI arrests in under twenty-four hours on Sunday.

The first arrest took place shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday when the Ramapo Police Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash in the area of 57 N. Airmont Road. The operator, a 41-year-old male from Ramsey, New Jersey, appeared impaired and was arrested and charged with DWI. He refused to take a breath test. The defendant was arraigned and released on his own recognizance and is due back at the Town of Ramapo Justice court at a later date in August.  

The second DWI arrest took place at approximately 2 a.m. A  Ramapo Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling on Hempstead Road in the Village of New Hempstead. The vehicle drove over the double yellow markings on the roadway in violation of NYS Vehicle and Traffic law. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the driver, a 30-year-old from Stony Point, appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was placed under arrest and charged with DWI. The driver was arraigned and released on his own recognizance and is due back in the Village of New Hempstead court at a later date.

The last arrest took place shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday. Ramapo Police responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of Guzzels in Hillcrest. The officers investigated and found that the operator of one of the vehicles involved appeared to be impaired. The 38-year-old from Hillcrest, was arrested and charged with  Aggravated DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 1st, DWI with a prior conviction within ten years, and Operating out of Ignition Interlock restrictions. In compliance with NYS Criminal Justice Reform, he was subsequently released without having to post bail and was advised to appear in court at a later date.
