Section of Route 9W Remains Closed as NYSDOT Continues Roadwork After Friday's Massive Brush Fire
by M.C. Millman
The New York State Department of Transportation advised the public that the southbound side of Route 9W will remain closed through Monday due to Friday's brush fires which devastated 50-50 acres of land, as reported by Rockland Daily.
It was initially hoped that the section of road from Short Clove to the intersection of Route 304 (known locally as the rock cut) could be opened by Sunday morning. However, the NYSDOT reported that as the area is still considered unstable from trees and powerlines uphill of the roadway, that stretch of road still needs to be carefully evaluated.
The NYSDOT was back at work at 7 a.m. this morning, working on reopening the road as quickly as feasible.
In the meantime, drivers must take alternate routes.
