Major Countywide Sidewalk Initiative Announced

Major Countywide Sidewalk Initiative Announced

by M.C. Millman

The County of Rockland will be funding a countywide Complete Streets project. This capital project will promote active forms of transportation, such as walking while reducing traffic and pollution.

The new, much-lauded sidewalk initiative will start with Highview Road in Monsey as the county follows suit with other municipalities that have taken similar initiatives upon themselves.

Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder has been leading the charge and commends Day in his commitment to providing a safer environment countywide for pedestrians and keeping children and families safer.

"This is monumental for our county," says Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder. "I commend Rockland County Executive Ed Day for taking the necessary steps toward achieving better safety for all our residents and a better quality of life. This project has been coming for a long time, and Rockland County residents will be grateful for decades to come."

Rockland County Executive Ed Day, Rockland County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr., Minority Leader Lon Hofstein, Budget and Finance Committee Chair Aron B. Weider, & Public Policy & Intergovernmental Relations Director Stephen Powers, & Highway Superintendent Skip Vezzetti were on hand for the announcement.

Rockland County has identified other roads that will also receive sidewalks. These roads will be completed in due course, and the public will be notified as they are scheduled.
