Hillcrest Fire Department Extinguishes Fire in Pine Valley Center Laundry Room

by Rockland Daily Staff

The Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 responded to a fire this morning at Pine Valley Center's Rehabilitation and Nursing Home at 10:40 a.m. after an automatic fire alarm activation was noted.

The first unit arrived at the scene within thirty seconds of being dispatched and observed heavy smoke coming from the laundry room on the first floor.

Within four minutes, water was dispatched onto the fire site while additional crews evacuated residents and staff.

The fire was contained in the laundry room due to quick action by the Hillcrest Fire Company's crew.

"Due to our quick response," Orin Ben-Jacob, Hillcrest Fire Company Captain, shares with Rockland Daily,  "we were able to keep the fire confined to a small location minimizing damage and allowing residents to return to their rooms in a quick and safe manner once it was extinguished."

Hillcrest Fire Company No.1 was assisted on the scene by the Monsey Fire Department, Spring Hill EMS, and Ramapo Police.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Ramapo Fire Inspectors Office.
