Fire at Nanuet's Northern Manor Multicare Center

By Mindy Cohn

On Friday, April 5, at 10:56 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a structure fire at Northern Manor Multicare Center on North Middletown Road in Nanuet.

Clarkstown Police were the first to arrive at the scene, at which point a Clarkstown officer located a fire in the basement laundry room.

The Nanuet Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after that and extinguished the fire. Emergency personnel then ventilated the building to clear the smoke from the air as quickly as possible so as not to endanger the residents.

Several fire departments, including New City, West Nyack, and Pearl River, Rockland Paramedics, and Nanuet Ambulance, reported to the scene as well.

As a precautionary measure, a number of residents were temporarily relocated from their rooms to another area of the building until all the smoke dissipated.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
