Clarkstown Moves to Tear Down Grace Church After Denying Ateres's Bid to Turn It Into a School

By M.C. Millman

Despite Ateres Bais Yaakov having recently won a ruling regarding Clarkstown's obstruction of the school's property purchase of a former church in Nanuet, as reported by Rockland Daily here, the town has voted to fund the church building's demolition.

Clarkstown bought the church after an initial court ruling against Ateres Bais Yakov, which Ateres claimed in its appeal was evidence of "disingenuous intentions."

According to LoHud, Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann said that the Second Circuit panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals's December 8 ruling didn't change Clarkstown's plans of demolishing the building.

Once the building is out of the way, the town is considering the possibility of constructing senior housing on the land as well as additional parking for the Nanuet school district.
