Bear Mountain State Park to Host Special Eclipse Viewing Event

C.G. Hoffman

The total solar eclipse, which comes only once every 400 years, is only a month away! On Monday, April 8, thousands of people excited for the rare event, have made plans for the viewing, while state and federal officials are scrambling to ensure that the event passes safely and efficiently.

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that a special viewing event is planned at Bear Mountain State Park on the day of the eclipse, April 8, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The event will be held on the field next to the Inn at the park, while information and education about eclipses will be made available to attendees. This is part of a state wide initiative that includes parks throughout the state, which will provide safe and scenic spots to enjoy the eclipse.

Park officials will also provide 50 eclipse glasses to attendees, available on a first come, first served basis. Viewers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets so that they can view the eclipse in comfort. Registration is available by contacting Christopher O'Sullivan at [email protected] or by calling 845-942-3861.
