BDE: Mrs. Hindy Finer, a”h, Renowned Monsey Philanthropist
Yitzy Fried
We regret to inform you of the petirah of Mrs. Hindy Finer, a”h, this past Friday night. She was a longtime Monsey resident and was niftar at the age of 82, following a lifetime of generosity within the Monsey community and beyond.
The nifteres hailed from two generations of turn-of-the-century American Rabbonim. She was born to her father, Rav Eliyahu Yechezkel Chapler, a Rov and Shochet in Liberty, NY, and the son of Rav Yaakov Mendel Chapler, a Rov in Passaic, New Jersey, beginning in 1908.
As a girl of 14, Hindy came to live in Williamsburg, so she could attend Bais Yaakov there.
She married, ybl”ch, R’ Yisroel Meir Finer, and together they built a beautiful Torah home within the Monsey community.
The Finers supported the local Monsey mosdos from a very early time, nurturing them and tending to them as they grew into what they are today.
Their home also welcomed Rabbonim from around the world, who could count on their generosity and support.
For herself, she did not need much and was renowned for her modesty.
“She would always say, ‘Hashem gave me in order that I can give further to others,’” related a granddaughter.
Mrs. Finer was nifteres on the same day as her grandmother and was buried alongside her and other relatives who firmly upheld Yiddishkeit in America of yore.
