Aging Water Main Continues to Plague Nyack Residents
By Sarah Morgenstern
A water main break at Nyack’s fire district substation on Wednesday at 2am is the latest unfortunate result of the town's aging infrastructure, Village Administrator Andy Stewart told news12 Westchester.
The line from Veolia, formerly called SUEZ Water, which usually serves as Nyack’s backup line, wasn't working either.
Veolia fixed its line, while workers and contractors worked to fix the transmission of Nyack’s water main.
"We have guys who have worked 20 to 30 hours now,” Stewart reported. “Our superintendent slept on the floor last night."
The flow of water briefly returned last night, but another leak, which needs to be patched, quickly sprung.
"[The water] came back about 12 o'clock last night,” Stewart said. “Now, it's gone.
"We're spending the money to fix lines, but it's a race against time."
In the meantime, Plasti-Craft on West Nyack Road and Western Highway is generously distributing free drinking water.
The possibility of contamination in the drinking water has caused Nyack to issue a boil-water advisory, even after the lines are repaired, for the residents who live on the following streets:
• Theresa Drive
• West Street
• Phillips Lane
• Benson Avenue
• Doscher Avenue
• Hobie Street
• Patterson Avenue
• Tompkins
• Green Road
