1.56 Million Dehumidifiers Recalled

Over 1.56 million Gree Electric dehumidifiers under forty-two brand names, including Kenmore and GE, sold between 2011 and 2014, are being recalled due to fire and burn hazard issues. 

Over 23 fires and 688 incidents of overheating, causing at least $168,000 in property damages, have been reported thus far from the units. Brand names such as Kenmore, GE, SoleusAir, Norpole, and Seabreeze. CPSC are included in the recall according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Gree USA, Inc. received a criminal fine of $500,000 in April for failing to notify the CPSC that millions of dehumidifiers it sold were defective and could catch fire.
The dehumidifiers were sold between 2011 and 2014 at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Sam’s Club, Sears, Walmart, and other stores nationwide and were priced between $110 and $400.

Consumers can find the model number and date code on a sticker on the unit. Anyone with an affected unit should stop using it immediately and contact Gree here for a refund.
