Town of Ramapo Issues Warnings to Car Service Drivers

Town of Ramapo Issues Warnings to Car Service Drivers
By Chana Weinman

While over fifty cars used as taxis or for car services have already been inspected and stickered, with many more scheduled, the Town of Ramapo is handing out flyers to remind car service drivers that they are required by law to have a permit.

The flyer, which is being distributed by Ramapo Code Enforcement to taxis and car services that do not yet have the Town of Ramapo sticker, reminds the drivers of the new law. Permit inspections began on November 9, as reported by Rockland Daily here

In addition to the Town of Ramapo Taxi permit sticker which is required for each vehicle, taxi drivers are also required to undergo a background and license check. Additionally, all taxis have to have valid New York State livery plates and inspections. No tinted windows will be allowed, and all vehicles must have a partition between the driver and the passenger.

Each sticker, which must be clearly visible and placed on the taxi's window, has a unique permit number so riders can easily identify the taxi they utilize, making their trip safer.

Beginning in 2024, all taxis in operation throughout the county must bear the Ramapo taxi permit sticker, or they will be ticketed and removed from service.

All taxi services that want to be licensed in the Town of Ramapo must visit the Town of Ramapo's website to apply for a license and subsequently have their vehicle inspected and tagged. The taxi commission is overseeing the Town of Ramapo taxi permit inspections.
