Rockland County OBC Working with Local Landlord to fix Building Problems

By: Yitzy Fried
As we have reported Rockland County has been deputized by New York State to enforce building code violations throughout the county as of February 14, after many officials of the building department were indicted following the Evergreen Fire.
But following the issuance of numerous violations at a building on Ridge Street, which is home to about forty tenants, the Office of Buildings and Codes (OBC) has given the owners an ultimatum to either fix or demolish the building within 15 days.
Since the owners are working to make repairs—including fixing fire escapes, installing carbon monoxide detectors, and addressing other issues—the OBC is working with them, and will not be evicting the tenants for the time being, thus working with residents to fix their building violations.
