EXCLUSIVE: Skimmer Strikes Again - This Time at the Palisades Mall

by M. C. Millman

After using her debit card at the ATM in the Palisades Mall, a Spring Valley resident put it away only to discover a month-and-a-half later that someone had racked up more than $15,000 in charges.

"I only used the credit card three times in total," the Spring Valley resident shares exclusively with Rockland Daily. "Two times were for tzedaka raffles, and the third time was at the ATM outside the Cheesecake Factory in the Palisades Mall on Tuesday, November 29. I don't usually use that card, so it took me all this time to notice!"

The report of the latest alleged skimmer scam follows closely on the heels of a similar incident presently under investigation after a skimmer device was found on one of the self-checkouts at Walmart in Airmont, as reported last week by Rockland Daily here

"The charges came from HC Middletown in Deleware," she says. "There were about twenty to forty charges put through from the same place per day for amounts that varied by a small amount, like $45.17 or $45.16. The charges were placed seconds apart. There were about 350 of these charges in total.

"The police are looking into it. But I want to make people aware they should check their credit card statements, even those not normally used, to be on top of the charges. And if this happened to anyone else who visited the mall and used that ATM in the Palisades mall, they should also report it to the Clarkstown Police Department."
