West Point Time Capsule Reveals Some Secrets After All

by M.C. Millman

After the U.S. Military Academy at West Point held a big reveal ceremony on Monday, reported on Rockland Daily here, in which a newly unearthed time capsule from 1828 was discovered to reportedly contain only silt, researchers discovered buried treasure after all.

The Academy says it discovered artifacts in the time capsule that dated back to 1828, as the sediment at the bottom was found to contain six coins and a medal, dating from 1795 to 1828.

The artifacts include one Liberty dollar coin from the 1800's; one 50-cent coin from 1828; one 25-cent coin from 1818; one 10-cent coin from 1827; one 5-cent coin from 1795; one 1-cent coin from 1827, and one Erie Canal commemorative medal from 1826.

Congressman Mike Lawler was on hand to see the newly discovered artifacts firsthand.
