Weekend Weather: Oppressive Heat Through Tisha b’Av, Interrupted by Rain Friday Night

By: Yaker Biegeleisen

We have been suffering with heat indexes surpassing 100 degrees, and if there is any good news on the horizon, it is that we will ‘only’ be in the 90s—which is still extremely hot, especially for the fast of Tisha b’Av.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Friday through 8:00 in the evening.

We expect some rain Friday afternoon, into the late hours of the night, but the heat will remain with us. There is also a chance of some showers throughout the Shabbos day—but it’ll be hot and sunny for the most part.

It is crucial that we load up on fluids during any heat wave, but certainly since we will be fasting on Sunday. A bit of lime is said to increase the effectiveness of the water we take in. Since this Tish b’Av is a nidche, those who find themselves in special categories (nursing, unwell, expecting, or elderly) should consult a rov whether they should fast.
