Watch Out: Scammers Pretend to be Collecting O&R Utility Bills

Scammers and swindlers who are on the constant lookout for how to trick money out of the innocent in society, have now come up with a new hook.

These heartless thieves are now targeting the residents of Orange and Rockland by pretending to be employees at Orange and Rockland Utilities demanding immediate payment via prepaid debit or green cards.

O&R does not accept either.

The scammers scare the victims by threatening to turn off their power and gas if instant payment is not received.

They are also executing door-to-door scams, where they pay their target a visit, claiming to be collecting an O&R debt.

O&R Utilities is educating the residents of Orange and Rockland on how to identify an authentic employee.

“An employee will readily prove their identity, give you their supervisor's name, and the ticket number assigned to your job,” O&R wrote on their website. “An imposter won’t.”
