Village of New Square Awarded 26.5 Million For Zero Emission School Busses

By Y.M. Lowy

The Village of New Square has been awarded $26.5 million through the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program.

This funding will be used to replace 48 diesel school buses with electric buses, install 48 fast chargers, and provide community outreach and training.

A few months ago, Yisroel Eisenbach of the Village of Spring Valley sent a letter of support for New Square’s application to the EPA program. In the letter, he emphasized the importance of reducing air pollution for the health of the community. He highlighted the benefit of electric school buses, which produce no tailpipe emissions, making them a cleaner, healthier option for the children in the Ramapo District. His support played a key role in securing this grant.

"I am truly grateful to be part of such a special grant for the children of New Square. New Square holds a special place in my heart as I grew up there," said Spring Valley Trustee Yisroel Eisenbach to Rockland Daily. "If anyone needs help or support, please don't hesitate to reach out. I am more than happy to assist in any way I can."

This grant is part of a $125 million allocation for New York State aimed at reducing harmful air pollution and improving air quality.
