US Rep Zeldin to Challenge Gov. Hochul on Nov. 8, When New Yorkers Choose New Governor

 By Yehudit Garmaise

Just after midnight on June 29, the NY Decision Desk Headquarters declared that Gov. Kathy Hochul will face US Rep Lee Zeldin, who represents New York’s 1st District, on Nov. 8.

With 67.5% of the vote, Hochul claimed a commanding victory over her challengers NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams who stood a distant second with 19.5% of the vote, and US Rep. Thomas Suozzi, who came in last with just 13% of the vote.

After Andrew Guiliani, who previously served as an adviser to former President Donald Trump, took an early lead on the Republican side, Zeldin, an attorney, and former military intelligence officer in the US Army who served in Iraq, won with 44.3% of the vote.

Guiliani had earned 23% of the vote early Wednesday morning, and Rob Astorino was in last place with 18% of the vote.

In the race for lieutenant governor, Antonio Delgado has taken the lead with 60.6% of New Yorkers’ votes.

Degaldo was appointed by Gov. Hochul, after her former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned on April 12, after he was charged for fraudulent campaign financing and bribery that took place when he was serving as a state senator.

Ana Maria Archila is now far behind with 25.1% of the vote, and Diana Reyna remains in last place with 14.2% of the vote.
