A pedestrian was struck by a train at 3:14 a.m. this morning at the Spring Valley Train Station at 1 Municipal Plaza.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the individual heavily pinned under the train. A prolonged extrication by Spring Hill EMS, working alongside the Spring Valley Fire Department and Rockland Paramedic Services Medic 25, was necessary to release the injured party.
The Pearl River Fire Department, Spring Valley Police Department, NYS State Police, and MTA Police were also at the scene.
The patient required a tourniquet for her leg as well as oxygen. Given the extent of the patient's injuries and the prolonged extrication, which took about 45 minutes, a Medivac was requested to land on the field of Spring Valley High School. Due to the inclement weather, the helicopter was unable to fly. Instead, the patient was transported in critical condition by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center.
