BREAKING UPDATE: Hillcrest Gunman Who Fatally Shot Victim This Morning Dead by Suicide

Update 8:52 p.m. 

After shooting a 56-year-old inside her home this morning, police report that the gunman is dead by suicide.

The victim died earlier due to multiple wounds from gunshots.

The gunman, 53-year-old Lawrence Byrd, was spotted in Stamford, Connecticut. When Stamford Police officers, who were assisting in the search,  approached the gunman, he shot himself. He was then taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Ramapo Police Department was assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff's Office, the Rockland County District Attorney's Office, the New York State Police, the Norwalk Police Department, the Stamford Police Department, and the Rockland County Intel Center.

Update 2:03 p.m.

The victim shot this morning during a domestic dispute has died of her injuries, according to ABC7. Police are still searching for the gunman.

Statement from Ramapo Police:

At approximately 8:56 am, today’s date, Ramapo Police responded to a reported shooting that occurred on Inwood Dr., in the Hillcrest section of the Town of Ramapo. One person was removed from the scene by ambulance and was transported to the hospital. Ramapo Police are currently investigating this incident and there is nothing further being released at this time.  Anyone witnesses or anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Ramapo PD at 845-357-2400

Officers from the Ramapo Police Department are searching for a possible gunman after a woman was shot in Hillcrest at 15 Inwood Drive. 

The victim was rushed to the hospital while the investigation and search in the area continues.

Rockland Daily on-scene reporters noted a large presence of emergency services, including the Rockland County Sheriff's Department, Rockland County Sheriff's Crime Scene Unit, Spring Hill ambulances, and Rockland Paramedics.
