U.S. Flights Resume After All Domestic Flights Grounded by FAA

By Mindy Cohn

After all Domestic U.S. flights were grounded since 7:20 this morning following an outage to the FAA's Notice to Air Missions system, flights have been gradually resuming since 9:00 a.m.

The Notice to Air Missions system provides safety information for flight crews. The pause of 4,314 flights was ordered to allow the FAA time to validate the integrity of flight and safety information.

After being briefed on the outage, the White House stated, "There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point."

A full investigation by the Department of Transportation as to what caused the outage was ordered.

"All flights currently in the sky are safe to land," the FAA tweeted at 8:13 a.m. . "Pilots check the NOTAM system before they fly. A Notice to Air Missions alerts pilots about closed runways, equipment outages, and other potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the flight."
