Town of Ramapo Expands Training Tools for Ramapo Police Department

Rockland Daily Staff

Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht announced on Friday that the Town has rolled out an additional training tool to further enhance police training initiatives with the approval of the purchase of a MILO system for the Ramapo Police Department.

"Expanding our police scenario-based training on crisis intervention, duty-to-intervene, de-escalation, force options, judgment skills, and situational awareness," says the supervisor, "builds upon our Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative commitments."

Members of the Ramapo Town Board, Chief Martin Reilly, and his command staff were present at Thursday's session.

Chief Reilly said, "This is a comprehensive training device to further equip our officers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to better protect and serve our community."

The Ramapo Police Department's training officers have already run several members through the new training system.

According to Sergeant Robert Bassett, Principal Firearms Instructor and Ramapo Police Training Coordinator, the newly approved system allows officers to practice and refine their skills in a realistic, safe, and controlled environment.
