by M.C. Millman
This morning, the Town of Ramapo celebrated the completion of Phase 1 and the beginning of Phase 2 of the Town's innovative Smart Streetlight Project.
The initiative, as reported by Rockland Daily here, aims to enhance public safety, improve energy efficiency, and foster a more sustainable community.
The event took place at the corner of West Maple Ave and Smolley Drive in Monsey. Residents joined the Town with elected officials and community leaders to commemorate the significant milestone and to share the vision for Ramapo's ongoing infrastructure improvement projects.
The morning focused on showcasing how the initiative aligns with the Town's commitment to embracing various methods to improve pedestrian and driver safety throughout the Town.
As previously reported by Rockland Daily here, Phase 1 of the Smart Streetlight Project involved swapping many older streetlights and installing state-of-the-art LED streetlights equipped with intelligent sensors and remote monitoring capabilities throughout various Ramapo neighborhoods. The energy-efficient streetlights have already begun illuminating streets, providing enhanced visibility and safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
"We are excited to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of our Smart Streetlight Project," Town of Ramapo Supervisor Specht shares with Rockland Daily. "We upgraded and replaced our existing lights with smart, energy-efficient LED lights throughout the unincorporated Town, and today we are starting Phase 2, when we will add over 1500 new lights to areas that had no streetlights or limited lights until now. By doing so, we will improve the quality of life for our residents and help create a safer, better Ramapo."
Phase 2 of the Smart Streetlight Project will expand the installation of the smart streetlights to additional areas within Ramapo. The second phase will involve adding over 1,500 new streetlights to areas with limited or no previous lights.
"The amount of effort this endeavor took on the part of the Town Supervisor Michael Specht and his staff was and still is tremendous," Spring Valley Village Trustee Yisroel Eisenbach shares with Rockland Daily. "Rockland is lucky to have such a dedicated team working with such diligence on the part of the entire town."
