The Spring Valley Police Department Reports on Increased Scams

M.C. Millman

Just in time for  International Fraud Awareness Week and on Utility Scam Awareness Day, the Spring Valley Police Department reports that it has been getting multiple complaints of scams involving fraudulent past-due balance claims from Best Buys Geek Squad.

Victims are being contacted via emails that report that they owe money for a Geek Squad service plan and have a past-due balance on their accounts. Victims then provide their bank account information or pre-paid gift cards only to realize a day later a large sum of money was subsequently removed from their account without permission.

Anyone who is uncertain about whether the caller on the other end is legitimate should contact the local police department before giving out bank account numbers or transferring money.

Rocklanders who realize they have been a scam victim or anyone with any information on a scam should contact Detective Fantasia at 846-721-9562.
