Supply Shortages a Threat to U.S. Infrastructure

Supply Shortages a Threat to U.S. Infrastructure

by Mindy Cohn

Microchips and cement shortages are translating into delays and higher costs when it comes to rebuilding U.S. crumbling infrastructure while manufacturing woes still plague the nation.

Supply chain issues continue to send costs up while creating shortages for important growth sectors such as the auto industry, machinery, and defense.

At the same time, non-residential construction is also having issues as cement, which is necessary to build and repair bridges, highways, and factories, is seeing a global shortage. With ready-mix concrete hard to come by and blocks and highway dividers having limited availability, the ongoing shortages are slowing down federally-funded infrastructure.

As of now, there is yet to be an end in sight for either of these supply chain woes.
