Rockland Daily Staff

An early morning fire engulfed three stores in Hillcrest Plaza in Spring Valley.

By the time Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 arrived at Peppes Pizzeria and Restaurant and Kathy's Bagels located at 312 and 310 Route 45 this morning at 3:41 a.m., the fire was already aggressively shooting out through the roof. Despite the fire hydrant nearby being completely inoperable, firefighters were able to keep the fire from damaging additional stores on either side of the three previously engulfed stores.

Hillcrest Fire Company was assisted on the scene by the Monsey, Spring Valley, Tallman, New City, Thiels, West Nyack, Nanuet, and Suffern Fire Departments as well as Spring Hill EMS and the Ramapo Police Department. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Rockland County Sheriff's Department BCI Unit and Ramapo Police Detective Bureau.
