I have written to Joanne M. Mahoney, Chair of NYS Thruway Authority Board of Directors, to request an increased residency discount for Rockland County residents from 17% to 25%. This increase would provide much-needed relief to Rockland commuters already burdened by the high cost of living in the New York metropolitan area.

Unlike Westchester, Rockland lacks a one-seat ride to New York City, forcing many commuters to drive and cross the bridge. As a result, any increases in tolls will disproportionately affect Rockland residents. That's why I am advocating for an increase in the residency discount for Rockland County residents. This increase would help to alleviate the financial strain on Rockland commuters and ensure that the proposed toll adjustments do not unfairly burden them.

Additionally, it is crucial to increase the commuter discount program above the existing 40% for enrolled E-Z Pass customers who cross the bridge more than 20 times per month. This increase would help alleviate the financial strain on frequent commuters relying on the Thruway to work.

The May 16, 2023, public hearings allow Rockland County residents to make their voices heard and advocate for increased residency and commuter discounts. I encourage all residents to attend and offer their remarks. Your input is crucial in shaping the outcome of this important issue.
