Rockland Skipped Over As More Than $14.2 Million Awarded to Support Tourism

by Rockland Daily Staff

New York draws millions of tourists from across the country and the world, and while Rockland  County depends on tourism to keep its economy healthy, no Rockland tourism entity made the cut for the Sub-Awards Grant Program from the United States Economic Development Administration.

The funds were awarded to thirty entities by Empire State Development's Division of Tourism to New York State tourism entities to support the State's travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation sectors' path to recovery post-pandemic.

New York State was also awarded funding from the United States Economic Development Administration, which made $750 million in funding available from the American Rescue Plan. Of the $510 million explicitly allocated to states, New York received the second highest amount of any state - receiving nearly $45 million, part of which will be used to enhance I LOVE NY's initiative and will support similar tourism-related efforts of other New York State agencies.
