Rockland Ranks Among New York's Wealthiest Counties

COVID 19 has altered the income and poverty levels of Americans, as well as job opportunities and consumer habits. New York State is slightly above the national average, with a median household income of $68,304. 

Stacker ranked counties based on their 2020 5-year median household income from the United States Census Bureau. This new ranking compares the top 50 New York counties based on financial earnings. 

The median household income in the United States was calculated to be $67,521 in 2020, a decrease of 2.9% from 2019. 

Rockland County is the fifth-wealthiest county in NYS, barely beating New York County, which came in sixth. Rockland has a median household income of $94,840, 33.4% higher than the state average and 45.9% above the national average. Data showed that 47.7% of households in the county earned over $100,000.

Westchester County is ranked the fourth-wealthiest, with a median household income of $99,489; Suffolk County is the third-wealthiest, with a median household income of $105,363; Putnam County is the second-wealthiest, with a median household income of $107,246. Nassau County ranked as the wealthiest county, with a median household income of $120,036.
