Rockland Green Works to Educate Locals About the Hazards of Battery Fires

by M. C. Millman

After a recent uptick in fires caused by batteries, including this week's deadly fire injuring more than 20 children in Queens, Rockland Green is working to educate residents regarding the proper disposal and recycling of batteries to save lives by preventing battery fires.

Rockland Green, Rockland County's Solid Waste Management Authority's recently released battery recycling awareness flyer, discusses the benefits of battery recycling as well as how to properly recycle batteries in Rockland County to avoid the dangers of improper disposal.

As fires from exploding e-bike batteries continue to mount, and fires like the one on December 13, 2022, at the NYPD Auto Pound, which burned for days and was sparked by an ion-lithium battery, continue to make the news, it is important to focus on how to cut down on batteries around the house. This can be accomplished by creating greater awareness of proper disposal and recycling.
