Rockland County STOP DWI Awarded $28,000 Grant

by M.C. Millman

Rockland County STOP DWI  Coordinator Albert Del Principio joined County Executive Ed Day to approve $28,000 in grant funds from the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. The funding will go towards implementing the STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign to crack down on drunk driving in the County.

The STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

Rockland County STOP-DWI targets times of the year when there is an increase in impaired driving at peak times of the year.

"The mission of this office is simple," Del Principio tells Rockland Daily, "Save Lives. There is zero excuses to put others at risk by choosing to drive impaired. Therefore, if someone makes the choice to drive through or in Rockland County impaired, there is a very good chance they'll be caught and prosecuted. Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is common sense and a little planning".

The grant of $28,000 allows Rockland County STOP DWI to continue to provide additional funding for overtime to the Rockland County Sheriff's Office, Ramapo PD, Orangetown PD, Clarkstown PD, Haverstraw PD, Stony Point PD, Spring Valley PD, Suffern PD and Piermont PD for specialized high visibility DWI enforcement.

"With the holiday season upon us, we want to ensure our police departments have the tools and resources they need to keep our roads and residents safe," said County Executive Day. "Thank you to the state for this needed funding."
